Therapy for Men

Are You A Man Who’s Struggling To Find Your Purpose?

Are you longing for more clarity in your life goals?

Do your relationships leave you unsatisfied and unfulfilled?

Do you yearn to be respected, appreciated, and understood?

Maybe your current job is no longer fulfilling, or you're facing challenges in building healthy relationships due to an addiction to substances or pornography. Perhaps you're struggling with existential questions such as your identity, life purpose, and what changes you need to make to achieve that purpose.

Ultimately, you desire a guide who can help you find some answers to your questions and point you toward what matters most to you in life.

You Might Feel Distracted From Your Goals And Disconnected From Your True Self

Did you grow up in a culture that discouraged open discussions about feelings? If so, expressing your emotions, needs, and desires may not come easily to you. You might feel disconnected from your true self and find it challenging to connect with your loved ones.

If this resonates with you, we invite you to reach out to us. At Covey Wellness Centre, our approach to counselling can help men overcome career challenges, enhance their relationships, reconnect with their authentic selves, and feel valued for who they truly are.

Man

Masculinity Is A Hot-Button Topic—But Few Of Us Can Truly Make Sense Of It

In today's world, men often receive conflicting messages about their roles and identities. Unfortunately, the portrayal of men is not always positive or kind. With discussions around misogyny, patriarchy, and toxic masculinity, many of us find it challenging to discover our place in society and understand what it truly means to be a man.

To put it simply, a significant number of us were raised in a culture that encouraged us to suppress our emotions and present a facade of unwavering strength. However, the rules are changing. The concept of displaying constant strength is no longer seen as desirable. We now have to navigate new social norms surrounding gender roles, leaving us caught between two worlds: one that instructs us to conceal our feelings and another that promotes vulnerability.

Therapy can help you navigate between these worlds and develop a relationship with masculinity that is authentically your own. We want to help you improve your emotional vocabulary, enjoy healthier relationships, and feel more connected to the world around you.

Therapy Is A Chance For Men To Be Themselves, Prioritise Self-Care, And Get In Touch With Their Emotions

Let's be honest, it's likely that you don't feel at ease opening up about your feelings with everyone in your life. That's completely understandable. But here's the good news: counseling provides a safe and non-judgmental space where you can truly be yourself. With us, there's no need to worry about being criticized or holding back. We're here to support you through those difficult conversations that you may find challenging to have with friends, family, or romantic partners.

What To Expect From Our Men’s Counselling Services

First and foremost, counselling offers you an opportunity to prioritize self-care. In our culture, there's a tendency for men to constantly keep going without taking a break. Therapy can help you slow down and achieve a healthier work-life balance. You'll discover how to invest in your emotional well-being, just as you invest in your career, family, and relationships.

During our sessions, we'll assist you in clarifying your priorities and purpose, and together we'll find the practical empowerment to address the obstacles in your life. Our counselling approach recognizes that you are the expert on your own life, empowering you to gain insight into the thought patterns that are holding you back. You'll learn to unravel societal messages about manhood and develop a genuine relationship with masculinity that aligns with your authentic self.

Tailoring Our Approach To Therapy For Men

We utilize a diverse range of approaches to assist men in achieving their goals. Many of our therapists employ a solution-focused approach, examining how you have overcome challenges in the past and teaching you to leverage the resources already available to you.

Furthermore, some of our therapists utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which explores the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. CBT can help you dismantle detrimental beliefs that drive unhealthy assumptions in your life, such as "I'm not worthy" or "I will never be loved."

In addition, we frequently incorporate a narrative approach to therapy for men. It's common to focus solely on failures in life, but narrative therapy enables you to rewrite your story, ensuring your successes are acknowledged, too.

Ultimately, we firmly believe that you don't have to remain stuck in your career or relationships. There is hope for change. With the right guidance and support, you can boost your confidence, enhance your self-esteem, and strengthen your connection with both yourself and your loved ones.

You May Have Some Questions About Therapy For Men…

What if I don’t want anyone to know I’m in therapy?

At Covey Wellness Centre, what happens in therapy stays in therapy. All of our sessions are confidential. You can even access therapy on an online platform if coming in person feels uncomfortable. The good news is that our office foyer is also part of a bookshop and retail space, so it’s easy to come and go without people noticing that you’re going to therapy.

What if I don’t feel comfortable with the therapist I choose?

You don’t have to stick with your therapist—we want what’s best for you, and that means finding a therapist who’s the right fit for you. The whole process is very flexible. This isn’t like a subscription service that asks you to commit to a month or a year with the same person. Instead, you get to choose how many sessions you attend and what therapist you want to work with.

What if I’m only coming because someone else told me to?

Therapy is most effective when you do it voluntarily. That said, sometimes the encouragement of trustworthy people who love us can be a helpful motivator in the healing process. If a loved one recommends therapy, it’s best to keep an open mind to see if it works for you. And if you have any concerns or skepticism about therapy, addressing them can be part of therapy itself.

Recover Your Real Self

As men, there are so many voices clamouring for our attention that sometimes it’s hard to find our own authentic voice. Therapy is a chance to do just that. If you’d like to pursue our men’s counselling services, you can use the contact form or call 249-888-7955.
